Awww bless 16 is a nice age for a cat though! we thought we'd lost our gorgeous and well loved black cat to road kill the other month, my girlfriend was inconsolable! I went to see to our cat and place her carefully in a cardboard box, only to realise it wasnt her! She came trundling up to me oblivious to what was going on, purring and brushing my leg! Thought it was a ghost! lol
It wasn't unexpected. Spike had been on the downward slide for a few months. Still not easy.
Glad your story has a happy ending. Sure the cat didn't realize he was witnessing his own funeral ;)
