PG-13 Sesame Street

Maybe I'm just over-reacting...but does anyone else find this disturbing?

According to an earnest warning on Volumes 1 and 2, “Sesame Street: Old School” is adults-only: “These early ‘Sesame Street’ episodes are intended for grown-ups, and may not suit the needs of today’s preschool child.”

WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!
Have we become that fearful as a society?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I am going to seek this out for my 1 year old nephew (along with unedited versions of old-school Warner Brothers cartoons).

I think his parents will approve.

We expose our two preschoolers to Classic Sesame Street on You Tube all the time. They love it. Needless to say, so do we. And so will your nephew.

I recently received an email which contrasted the way school responded to situations in 1957 and 2007. While it is largely simplistic and facile, it does serve to highlight the extent to which we have become obsessed with political correctness. Witness the following extract:

Scenario: Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his
knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary hugs him to comfort him.

1957 - In a short time, Johnny feels better and goes on playing.

2007 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job.
She faces 3 years in State Prison. Johnny undergoes 5 years of therapy.
